The Madras Service Commission thus came into being under an Act of the Madras Legislature in 1929. Madras Presidency had the unique honour, of being the only province in India to establish the first Service Commission. The Madras ServiceCommission started with three Members, including the Chairman. After re-organisation of States in 1957, several Commissions were constituted. The Madras ServiceCommission became Madras Public Service Commission with headquarters at Madras in the year 1957. During 1970, when the name of the State was changed into Tamil Nadu, the Madras Public Service Commission automatically became the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC).

Qualification:
(1) A degree in Mechanical Engineering or Automobile Engineering or Automobile Technology of any University or Institution recognised by the University GrantsCommission for the purpose of its grants.
Scale of Pay: Rs.9300-34800
Age Limit (as on 01.07.2011): 18-35 Yrs
Exam Centre: Examination will be held at CHENNAI only (Code No.001). TheCommission reserves the right to increase the number of examination centre and to re-allot the candidates.
Selection Process: Selection will be made in two successive stages i.e., (i) Written Examination and (ii) Oral Test in the shape of an interview.
Examination Fee:- Rs.100 (One Hundred Only). Candidates (other than those whoapply Online) should inform the Counter Clerk of the Post Office their OMR applicationNumber for obtaining the Postal Receipt.
How to apply:
Apply either through Online/ Offline mode. OMR application form along with an Information Brouchure containing, Commission’s ‘Instructions, etc. to candidates’ and an envelope for sending application can be obtained from any one of the Head Post Offices or Selected Sub- Post Offices (285 Nos.) in Tamil Nadu including Alagappapuram-Sivaganga/ Puducherry and also from the Sales Counter of the office of the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission, on all the working days till the closing date upto 5.00 p.m. on payment of Rs.30 (Rupees Thirty only). Application forms will not be supplied to the candidates by Post. Candidates can also avail of the facility of applying Online. Candidates applying Online should possess and keep ready Postal receipt for Rs.130 (i.e. Application fee Rs.30 + and Examination fee Rs. 100) and those claiming fee exemption should possess Postal receipt for Rs.30 obtained from any one of the Head Post Offices / selected Sub- Post Offices, before registering Online. The Postal receipt for Application Fee/ Examination Fee should be pasted in the space provided in the application. Candidates applying Online shall also abide by the Commission’s instructions laid down in this Notification / Advertisement/Commission’s ‘Instructions etc. to candidates’/ Information Brochure. The facility of applying Online will be closed on 13.06.2011. Filled in applications (OMR/ Online application i.e. printout generated from the website duly signed by the Candidate) must be sent to the Controller of Examinations, Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission, No.1, Greams Road, Chennai – 600 006 well in advance so as to reach the Commission’s Office before 5.45 P.M. on 15.06.2011.
